I received today’s Fixed-it Friday photo from Paul Hawley of P.H. Hawley Associates – he saw this door on a cruise ship. Although this is a stop and it’s “overhead”, it’s not what we would typically call an overhead stop…here’s a video of how an overhead stop works!
Is the stop shown in the photo an actual product? Or custom fabrication?

I had just seen these on the Disney Treasure cruise ship. Of course they were using a track arm operators (Dorma ED900 I think) throughout, and several of the arms had slipped off. Considering the extreme conditions, I think these types off door stops work well. They impact the middle of the door, so the impact doesn’t damage the top hinge as much.
Maybe you and Paul were on the same ship! 🙂
