Mike Robinson sent me these photos of a mounted sample of a “spring hinge” and asked if I knew anything about this product.  I found some old patents that were granted to inventor Joseph Bardsley, dating from the early 1900’s, but I can’t tell if they are exactly the same as the product shown in the photos.

Have any of you seen this checking spring hinge before?  It’s pretty cool!  Was this the first floor closer?
