Allegion 101 continues on Tuesday! This series was designed for people who are new to the industry, new to the Allegion family of brands, or just want to learn more about hardware. If you know of someone who is new to doors and hardware, or maybe someone in another role who could begin learning more about the technical / product side of things, set them up with this course!
Tuesday, May 4th:
- 1:00-2:30pm EDT: Allegion 101. Secure the Door: Von Duprin
- This session will focus on exit hardware, a product category driven by life safety. Learn what makes an exit device an exit device according to building codes and standards. Become familiar with the types of exit hardware, the trims used on the other side of the door, and some commonly-used options that add functionality to an exit device. Featuring the Von Duprin 98/99 Series, this session will also help you wrap your arms around Von Duprin model numbers/nomenclature. Jeff Tock, our End User Training Manager, will be your guide.

- 10:00-11:00am: Hurricane Hardware Product Testing and Compliance
- As codes continue to get more stringent in hurricane prone areas of the country, products designed for harsh conditions are becoming even more important. This session will familiarize you with the terminology used when discussing openings in hurricane zones and will give you an overview of the testing done on these products. You will learn what to look for when choosing the products for an opening, where to go to find product approvals, and what it takes for these products to be considered compliant. Leon Starks, our Steelcraft Training Manager, will lead this session.
- 12:00-1:00pm: Electrified Hardware for Access Control Systems and Security
- Electrified and electronic hardware can enhance the security and safety of a facility if the hardware selections are made with the facility’s needs in mind. During this session, we’ll talk about the importance of asking questions of your clients to determine how they need openings to function given their access control and security requirements. We’ll have time to discuss some electrified and electronic hardware components commonly in use today and that can grow/adapt as your clients’ needs change. John Dalrymple, our Electronics Training Manager, will lead this session.
- 2:00-3:00pm: Code Changes Affecting Classroom Doors
- The 2018 editions of the International Building Code, International Fire Code, and NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code, all include changes specific to classroom doors. A Tentative Interim Amendment was approved in 2019 which further modifies the 2018 edition of NFPA 101. This session will cover the requirements of these model codes as they apply to classroom doors, including how these changes and some states’ legislation impact the types of security devices allowed on classroom doors. Jeff Tock, our End User Training Manager, will lead this session.
- 4:00-5:00pm: Electrified Hardware – Wiring Choices
- Selecting the correct wire for electromechanical locking devices and electronic access control systems is critical for the proper operation of those devices and systems. If terms such as volts, amps, plenum-rated, and shielded leave you scratching your head, this webinar is for you. Allegion’s senior product trainer, Gordon Malczewski, will show you how to read labels on various types of cables and help you select the proper cable based on factors such as operating voltage, current rating, wire lengths, and the installation environment.
