First, a few things…

a) For everyone who still has their fingers and toes crossed from yesterday’s fire door test, the wood doors passed!  In addition to addressing the perimeter clearance problems, a door shoe was tested (and also passed!) which can address excess clearance under a fire door – a clearance of up to 2 inches!  Congratulations to the Noble family, who invested a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and $$$ in having these products tested to offer a solution to this very common problem.  I’ll post some photos and videos from the test next week.

b) I mentioned in yesterday’s post that my hotel had some issues.  I emailed the fire/life safety director for the hotel chain at 10:16 on Wednesday night.  At 8:30 the next morning I received a call from a member of their fire prevention team, who had already spoken to the general manager of the hotel.  We talked about the challenges of dealing with a property under renovation, and needless to say I was very impressed with the response.  At 7 p.m. last night I received an email from the general manager of the hotel, thanking me for bringing the situation to their attention.  When you point out problems, it’s not about tattling or getting someone in trouble, it’s about working together to address the situation.  We have that expertise, and we notice these issues.  Use your expertise to improve life safety.

c) Next week I’m headed to ISC-West in Las Vegas!  If you’ll be there, let me know and we can try to connect.  I will be in the Allegion booth (#20031) most of the day on Wednesday and Thursday.  If you’re local and would like to attend the show, here is a link for complimentary registration that you can use until April 1st.

And finally, today’s Fixed-It Friday photos are of exterior school doors seen by Ken Cook of Allegion.  This is how the doors to the playground are kept unlocked to allow access.  Comments?
