Steve Wehofer of Allegion sent me today’s Wordless Wednesday photo, taken in a church in a Chicago suburb.  While this may seem like “just another chained exit” (boooring…), I am reminded of the MANY times that locked or blocked exits have resulted in fatalities during an emergency.  Whether it was the fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, the stampede at the E2 Nightclub, or the mass shooting at the Christchurch Mosque, history has shown that there are multiple hazards to plan for.  Every locked or blocked exit should serve as a reminder of the potential effects of non-code-compliant door openings.
