It’s been a really long time since I posted a collection of reader photos because I’ve been using a lot of the submissions for Wordless Wednesday and Fixed-it Friday. Here are some of the reader photos that have been patiently waiting in my inbox…
I sent some of my code books to Nathan Burkhardt of Opening Technologies and in return he sent me an assortment of recent photos. Here are a few (look for more of Nathan’s photos on Wednesday and/or Friday!):
The kick-down holders were removed from several fire doors in this library, but where there’s a will, there’s a way…
This auto operator install looks great, until the operator needs service…
And in this elder care facility, management took steps to keep the residents from getting locked out on the balcony (if my grandma lived here, they’d have the right lock function)…
Jeramie Morris posted this photo on the iDH Facebook page. Does this fire door look code-compliant to you?
And Kyle Learch of Allegion sent me this photo taken in the office of an end user…a reminder of how a key system can get out of control. If you have a fishbowl of keys like this, it’s time for an access control system!
I’ve got more photos to post but have to run to a meeting! More tomorrow!

“I now introduce the fantastic new fusible link book stop! If the fire gets to hot then the book burns away shutting the fire door! Genius!” – Librarian who thought of this.
For the balcony, the difficulty is what the right lock function would be. I imagine if the balcony is anywhere close to the ground (ladder-reachable), you want to lock it for security.
