Today is a big milestone, and I have to say…I’m pretty proud of it.  Today’s post is the 4,000th post on iDigHardware!  In the last 17 years, I have thought of something to share about door openings and the code requirements that affect them – 4,000 times!

Many of  you have been around since the beginning, and I appreciate you!  If you are newer to iDigHardware, I would like to share a bit about the different types of posts that are available here…

Wordless Wednesday and Fixed-it Friday – These are the favorite posts for many readers, and I receive most of my photos via the photo submission page.  The first Wordless Wednesday post was in 2011, and to date there have been 733 posts.  Fixed-it Friday began in 2013, and so far there are 613 posts in this category.  If you ever want to browse these posts, click on the WW or FF boxes in the right sidebar.

Decoded Articles – In 2010, I started writing a monthly column for Door Security + Safety Magazine, and these articles are all available on the Articles page of iDigHardware.  Although they may not be quite as much fun as Wordless Wednesday and Fixed-it Friday, what I love about these articles is that each of them covers a topic in-depth, including code references.  If you need to learn about a code-related topic or a recent code change that applies to door openings, there is probably a Decoded article about it.  I am in the process of updating some of the original ones to include current code references.  These articles are great to share with others when you’re trying to answer a code question.

Quick Questions and “What’s that?” – If I had a nickel for every time someone said, “I have a quick question…”, I’d be rich!  😀  This category of posts is inspired by questions from the field.  The series began in 2016, with 174 Quick Question posts to date (there is a QQ box in the right sidebar).  I recently started a related category called, “What’s that?”  When I was new to the hardware business, I was fortunate to have patient teachers and mentors who helped me learn what a coordinator bracket was for, and why I might need a CUSH shoe support or a glass bead shim kit.  This category of posts answers those questions for readers who are newer to the industry.

WWYD? – Sometimes I just don’t know the answer to a question or I need some insight from the field.  For those posts I ask – What would you do? (WWYD?) and I am always pleasantly surprised and grateful for those who weigh in with their experience.  That’s my favorite thing about iDigHardware – the community that has formed around it!

There are sooooo many other resources on iDigHardware – some of my favorites are the recently updated Allegion Code Reference Guide, the topics pages on things like special locking arrangements and accessibility, and the estimators for occupant load and egress width.  I also share training opportunities, like my Live With Lori series (Session 2 is September 15th!).
