Colin Watson of Allegion sent me today’s Wordless Wednesday photos, and if you look closely, I think you’ll be Wordless too. What is it with these restaurants and their exits??

Glad they have electronic security monitoring on it.
Want to make sure they know when the door opens!!!
There are at least 7 deficient items to note on the picture to include the wall that is potentially impeding into the clear width of the door. The multiple (3) barrel bolts, the thumb lock, the fact the door is obscured, the fire extinguisher without proper signage
Good eye! The question is…what would you do if you were in a local restaurant and saw this??

So in case of a fire, not only do I have 4 locks to deal with, I get the added pleasure of melting plastic on my neck? Wow! Just wow!
As someone who spent their formative years working in restaurants, you wouldn’t believe the things people will do to scam a free meal. Skipping out the back door is the least obnoxious but most obvious method, especially if the bathrooms are near the back door.
I’m not condoning it, but i understand.

That’s why there’s a Fire Extinguisher there…Of course!
Looks like an 80″ tall door (if counting brick can be trusted), so I doubt that bar across the door frame gives required clearance under it.
So much for “one operation” unlatching.
Hi Lori,
Thank you for sharing the post about the restaurant exit. It’s always interesting to see how different buildings and spaces are designed to accommodate specific needs.
I couldn’t help but wonder, in the case of this particular restaurant, what kind of fire safety measures were implemented in the exit design? Were there any specific codes or regulations that had to be followed in order to ensure the safety of patrons and staff in case of an emergency?
Looking forward to hearing from you
Cheers

Hi Todd –
I don’t know anything about the restaurant’s fire safety measures…I only received this photo.
