I can hear some of you saying, “But there’s no exit sign above this door!”  While that appears to be true, it doesn’t mean the door can have non-code-compliant hardware.  Maybe an exit sign is not required for this door, or maybe the missing exit sign is just one more violation along with the multiple motions required to unlatch the door.  And remember…if a door is provided for egress purposes – even if the door is not required in order to accommodate the calculated occupant load – the IBC requires it to be code-compliant.
