Sometimes targeted ads can be a little unsettling.  Like the time I was visiting my mom, we talked about going out for lobster, and a few minutes later Facebook showed me an ad for the closest Red Lobster location.  On the other hand, I’m hesitant to try to protect myself from these ads (if that’s even possible) because the other day I was searching for the best hiking boots for someone with a heel spur (me), and now I’m getting lots of suggestions for how to fix my heel.

Last week I asked if you knew of any podcasts about codes, doors, or anything else related to iDigHardware, and the “man behind the curtain” (of social media) showed me a recent article called: 16 Podcasts for Fire Protection and Life Safety Enthusiasts. I still haven’t found a podcast on doors, so maybe that will have to go on my to-do list for the future.

Along with the long list of podcasts to explore, my Security in 30 webinar recording is available on Allegion’s Security in 30 page (along with all of the other webinars in the series), and the recordings of my other recent webinars are on the iDigHardware webinars page.

And…tomorrow is Webinar Wednesday, so here are the webinars being presented by our national trainers (all times are EST):

10:00am – 11:00am Lock Functions

Are you new to locks for non-residential buildings? This webinar will provide you a solid foundation, from describing lock functions in terms of how the lock behaves to explaining the difference between function name, ANSI number, and Schlage model number. You’ll get the opportunity to practice selecting the best lock function for a particular scenario.

Gordon Malczewski, Schlage Training Manager, will be your guide.

12:00pm – 1:00pm Schlage and Von Duprin Power Supplies

Are you responsible for selecting, ordering, or advising others on the right power supply for electrified openings? In this session, learn about the Schlage and Von Duprin power supplies and when to use each. You will also become familiar with the seven different option boards and the appropriate applications for those boards.

Shawn Mahoney, our Von Duprin Training Manager, will lead this session.

2:00pm – 3:30pm Low Energy Automatic Operator Fundamentals

Automatic operators can help facilities and people with accessibility issues and touchless access preferences, but selecting the correct operator can be confusing. Is it permissible to use a motion detector to activate the door? Does a wave to activate actuator meet the Knowing Act requirements of the ANSI standards? Join us as we explore the differences between Low Energy automatic operators and Full Power (High Energy) automatic operators. Learn what the standards require for proper speed adjustments and opening force requirements for doors with automatic operators. Find out which LCN operators provide the most adjustability to meet building owner needs.

Jeff Tock, AHC and Regional Training Manager for Allegion, will guide you through the exercise of choosing the operator that can best meet your needs.

4:00pm – 5:00pm Essentials of Access Control

In this session, we will explore the essential components of access control. We will discuss products common in access control, including their features and benefits and the solutions they provide for a building’s occupants and owners.

John Dalrymple, our Allegion Electronics Training Manager, will lead this exploration.
