I love these Fixed-it Friday photos from Richard de Campo of Poss Architecture + Planning and Interior Design. This door leads from the showroom area to the welding shop at The Iron Gallery in Rifle, Colorado. The owner, Gary Russell, is hard of hearing from years of not wearing ear protection, so the doorknob became a horn as he couldn’t hear customers knocking. Very creative!

Great idea!. thanks for the chuckle.
It gives a whole or is that (hole) new meaning to the word horny old man ….lol
Does the door no longer latch?
Hi Lach –
Nope, no more latch.
– Lori
so, without a latch, would a stiff breeze not push the door open? How is this door being secured with this configuration?
Hi Jeff –
It’s an interior door so I don’t think it’s too breezy, and they probably don’t need security for the workshop if they have staff in the gallery.

Cute, but:::
Hardware. Door handles, pulls, latches, locks and other operating devices on doors required to be accessible by IBC Chapter 11,

Hi Charles –
The door just pushes/pulls open now, so no tight grasping, pinching, or twisting is required. What do you think? Acceptable?
– Lori
Just kidding……
But, you have to grasp the horn to sound it!!! to request service!!!
Wow that is an interesting fix it Friday!
At least when some grabs the end of the horn on the outside, it will alert the employees on the inside!
Love it! An ingenious and fun way to solve a problem!
Does a clown answer the door afterwards….
That is one way to solve his problem! LOL
reminds me of when I was a kid going to the one pump gas station where you had to toot for service.
I think the only way this would be acceptable is if its a clown’s office.
Thats one of the funniest things I’ve seen in awhile.
Someday I’ll need that!
Love it. Sure beats a push button horn hooked up the proper way. This one makes sure you really need help
Awesome idea. You do what works…
Sound advice from IDH.
Too Funny! What a creative ‘doorbell’….
Funniest one of these in a while.
