Maybe they couldn’t find parts for an older model screen door?
I guess that is a fifteen pound spring???
Did it meet 5 pounds of force??
It seems so much easier to just get a new handle. This is hilarious.
That is an awkward photo?
That is one way to have the lever return to a horizontal position!
I may have put some shrink wrap around the wires on the handle and a slip tube on the vertical spring to avoid getting pinched but other than that that’s classic.
I always like seeing a little “Yankee ingenuity” (as long as it doesn’t impair life-safety), as too often a whole lockset (or whatever) is replaced because it’s too hard to get parts and find someone to repair something. A lot of stuff gets thrown out and replaced. E.g.: I had a nice mirrorless camera that stopped recognizing the SD card due to a faulty switch – for only slightly more than the cost of repairs, I got a whole new camera body. Nice, but wasteful.
Thank you! I often tell folks in the office to check out your blog and have forwarded links to a few of your articles, so I’ll use it with pride.
Oh dear… I will say that is clever.
Wow, that is one creative way to fix the issue! Though, maybe they could have used a bigger spring.
where’s the duct tape?
reminds me of a “farmer fix”
I love the fine wire work skills securing the spring. It’s clear this was installed by a master of their craft, probably after they ran out of duct tape.
It goes with the bucket and rope counterweight door closer.
Fixed the lock, however, missed the torn screen.
