Yikes. Guessing a bit but suspect it is used to provide a latch ramp without wearing the aluminum stile. I had to do similar for a custom aluminum mullion where the panic dead latch was cutting a groove into the softer material. I built a 90 degree corner of stainless steel and glued it over the surface. I thought I mine looked better and was more subtle.

I agree Martin, that’s what if figured as well not the right way to go about it of course.
Sometimes you just need to use up the extra parts that you don’t know what they are for! LOL
Once again necessity is the mother of invention. However there has got to be a better way . Lol
