I don’t know about you, but I used to feel like code officials were mysterious beings…sometimes they seemed a bit unpredictable.  I think a big part of this is because the sections of the codes that we deal with on a daily basis are difficult to decipher if you are not intimately familiar with doors and hardware.

For the last few years I’ve had the privilege to get to know (at least virtually), many of the AHJs and other members of the Building Code Forum.  I have even run across a few of them outside of the forum, and felt like our online connection helped to pave the way for our offline conversations.  Close to a year ago I created a Door & Hardware forum on the site, and since then there have been 153 discussions which have been viewed more than 120,000 times!  It has been so valuable for me to get input from members of the forum regarding my questions, and for me (and others!) to help with their hardware questions.

Come on over and check out the forum!  Maybe you can help with this technician’s auto operator question, or join one of these other recent discussions:

  • Firefighters Closed Fire Door
  • IBC 1008.1.9.8 or 1008.1.9.9
  • Measuring Push/Pull Opening Force on Doors
  • Double Acting Doors
  • Emergency Exit Seals
