On Monday I’m headed to ISC-West in Las Vegas for a few days…will I see any of you there?  And in a few weeks I’m making my first-ever trip to Missouri AND Kansas!  If you’re in the area, I’ll be playing Code Jeopardy with the MO KAN Chapter of DHI on April 25th in Kansas City, and debuting my new game-show presentation – Decoded: 1 vs. 100, on April 26th in Overland Park, Kansas.

If you’re thinking that fun and games don’t go along with codes, you’re wrong!  I created Code Jeopardy about 10 years ago when I was asked to do a presentation for a very mixed group – from locksmiths and salespeople to the warehouse manager and the owner of the company.  It went so well that I’ve hardly done any “regular” presentations since.  I played Code Jeopardy with a group of building inspectors (who I could tell thought I was nuts at the beginning), and afterward one told me that he just came for the meatloaf but ended up learning a lot.  The local locksmith association asked me to do a code presentation, and after an hour of Code Jeopardy one of them told me it was the best tech session they had ever had!

I had to come up with something new for the 26th because the room holds 190 people (eek!), but I think the 1 vs. 100 format will be great.  Let me know if you’re local and you want to be part of THE MOB!  It will be worth 2 1/2 AIA CES Points (HSW), and DHI continuing education points as well.  I’m planning to cover a wide range of code requirements related to openings, including the various electrified hardware applications, fire doors and annual inspections, storm shelter requirements, the new ADA standard for accessibility, changes regarding panic hardware…with time left over for questions.  If you can look me in the eye and tell me that you’re up to speed on all of the current requirements, you can stay at your desk that day.  Otherwise, come on down!

And for those of you who are reading this post even though you’re nowhere near the Midwest, here’s something to make your visit to the blog worthwhile.  I just found this photo of me and a bunch of my cronies at the Boston Chapter CSI Social last winter.  I don’t know WHAT I’m doing, but the picture cracks me up (I swear it was my first glass of wine).  My boss is directly north of my glass (not the smiling guy)…I’m pretty sure he’s getting ready to call HR.  The guy with the glasses on his head looking at the camera had just been hired by our New England office…he may be wondering how to get in touch with HR too.  Maybe we should have a caption contest.
