I first designed the 1 vs. 100 class when I was teaching a group of 200 people!

The time has finally come…tomorrow I will be flying to the Southeast for my first business trip in 21 months, and I’ll be on the road for 3 solid weeks!

One of the stops on my trip will be the DHI conNextions conference in New Orleans, and I’ll be teaching a brand new version of my 1 vs. 100 class on Thursday, October 21st at 8 a.m. (details here).  What better time to learn about codes than first-thing in the morning when you’re fresh – am I right?  I’m already worried about oversleeping, so maybe you can all text me around 6:30, just in case.

• 10:00-11:30am: Low Energy Automatic Operator Fundamentals
  • Automatic operators can help facilities and people with accessibility issues and touchless access preferences, but selecting the correct operator can be confusing. Is it permissible to use a motion detector to activate the door? Does a wave to activate actuator meet the Knowing Act requirements of the ANSI standards? Join us as we explore the differences between Low Energy automatic operators and Full Power (High Energy) automatic operators. Learn what the standards require for proper speed adjustments and opening force requirements for doors with automatic operators. Find out which LCN operators provide the most adjustability to meet building owner needs. Jeff Tock, AHC, Regional Training Manager for Allegion, will guide you through the exercise of choosing the operator that can best meet your needs.
• 12:00-1:00pm: Lock Functions
  • Are you new to locks for non-residential buildings? This webinar will provide you a solid foundation, from describing lock functions in terms of how the lock behaves to explaining the difference between function name, ANSI number, and Schlage model number. You’ll get the opportunity to practice selecting the best lock function for a particular scenario. Gordon Malczewski, Schlage Training Manager, will be your guide.
• 4:00-5:00pm: Steelcraft Door & Frame Construction and Application
  • New to hollow metal doors & frames? Join us to learn about Steelcraft door types, such as full flush, steel stiffended, temperature rise, and style and rail doors. You will also learn the difference between masonry and dry wall frames, including some application and installation considerations. Leon Starks, Steelcraft Training Manager, will lead this session.

• 2:00-3:00pm Eastern: Door Drills | Maintaining Your Door Closers, Featuring the LCN 4040XP
  • This session looks at door closers, one of the essential products in keeping openings safe and secure.  Learn common causes and cures for such symptoms as slamming doors, or doors that open too fast, or doors that only partially open, or doors with fluid running down from the closers.

Learn the essentials of each product category or topic so that you can get your footing in this broad and deep industry. Attend as many or as few session in the series as you would like and as your schedule permits.

• 1:00-2:30pm Eastern: Allegion 101. The Door & Frame – Steelcraft
  • In this session, learn about the world of Steelcraft hollow metal doors and frames. We’ll address such elements as frame profiles, drywall frames, masonry frames, and the anchors used in their installation. Learn about door construction and hardware reinforcements. Get familiar with common Steelcraft model numbers/nomenclature so you can make sense of documents (e.g., order acknowledgements, the price book, etc.) and literature (e.g., catalog pages, tech data manuals, etc.). Leon Starks, our Steelcraft and Republic Training Manager, will be your instructor.
