Today’s Fixed-it Friday photo left me Wordless. If you are unsure about the field alterations permitted on a fire door assembly, refer back to this Locksmith Ledger article. Thank you to Blaine Youngquist of The Cook and Boardman Group for the photo.

Always see this type of alteration in the work place . Inexperienced, handy people . Trying to save money instead of doing it correctly. Liability is an amazing thing
You have got to be kidding…
Quite amateurish and completely ignorant of fire codes. Before I made any recommendations I would find the as built drawings. In my experience I have seen many a labeled door purchased from the local distributor and installed in a non -rated opening. All frames we stocked bore an embossed fire label.
So it is our job to determine the rating or non-rating of the opening.
