builders hardware manufacturers association logoI am on my way to the BHMA Spring Technical Committee Week, where we will work on updating several BHMA standards as well as holding some other committee meetings.  One of those meetings will be for the BHMA Codes, Government, and Industry Affairs Committee, where we will discuss the progress we have made in updating the model codes and referenced standards, and plan for the next code development cycle addressing the 2027 model codes.  Over the last 20+ years, this committee has proposed and influenced dozens of code changes related to door openings.  If there is a change you think needs to be made, leave a comment below.

If you are not familiar with the BHMA standards, one of the resources available on their website may be helpful to you.  The BHMA Hardware Highlights are one-page summaries for each ANSI/BHMA A156 series standard.  There are 42 summaries in the series, which you can access here, or you can click here to purchase a full copy of the standard.
