I love receiving photos from AHJs…today’s Wordless Wednesday photos were sent by Dave Cox, a fire marshal in Minnesota. Of course the mural, signage, and deadbolt caught my eye, but I also wonder what’s going on with that light switch. Theories?

Probably an on off switch for the power outlet. Or at least one would hope that’s all it is.
It looks like power comes from below, see the outlet, and then feeds the exit sign hopefully with additional wiring in the conduit for lightning the room or an outside lite controlled by the switch.
hopefully not disconnecting power from the the exit and emergency light.
The light switch is new, so the painter has to come back out to paint the conduit. Change order around $10,000, so it is on hold.
LOL – too true
The switch in this case controls the electrical box at the the floor to meet electrical code. Why the outlets are at floor level is another matter.
Could be a “test” switch for the exit sign/emergency lights. Flip the switch, cuts normal power to the unit and allows a person to test the battery backup on the sign and lights without involving a ladder.
