Today’s Wordless Wednesday photos were taken by Chris Arnold of Melbourne Locksmith in Australia, who was called in to fix a screen door lock. These screen doors are blocking egress in a public building, where apparently the insects are a nuisance.
Update: For everyone that is commenting on the size of the bugs because of the size of the holes…what I was told about these doors is that there is screen along with the grilles. 😀

At least they put an insect protector over the exit sign also!!!
What were they thinking or not thinking
Just how big are the insects in Australia??
Remember the movie “Crocodile Dundee”, when we got to see how big Dundee’s knife was? It might be an indication of how big the insects are.
Those must be some huge bugs, judging by the size of the screen holes. The screen doesn’t even open in the right direction, ugh.
Those must be some BIG insects!! Well, it is Australia… 😉
Those must be some mighty big insects!
Looks more like vandalism or abuse (?) protection or else they’re just keeping out very large insects?
Nice looking screens. Bad application!
those must be really big bugs!
wow, would not want to be in that building in an emergency.
I have actually done something similar to this for a cafeteria delivery door;; but in my case the real door opened inward and the new screen security door was equipped with a panic device and opened outward. Security screen door was accessed by card reader. It was a good solution to a problematic door that was continually left open.
Oh. Did not mention that the door was covered with a screen for the bugs as well as expandable metal for the bad guys.
I have seen screen doors installed at the kitchen exit of several schools. Perhaps they were added after occupancy, but they had typical screen mesh which would give if you decided to push through instead of stopping and pulling the door(s) towards you. The screen doors in the article are made of perforated metal with a screen insert and would need to be opened first. I don’t think that this would fly here in the states.
