A retired AHJ sent today’s Wordless Wednesday photos of a secondary means of egress in a small hamburger restaurant. Technically, if the calculated occupant load is less than 50 people the second exit may not be required, but if the door is provided for egress purposes, it must be code-compliant.

I realize that it’s the “back of house” area that we are seeing, but any restaurant this filthy and deteriorating, signals to me that this is not a place to have a cheeseburger.
I could not agree more, Jerry!

At least it’s unlocked during business hours.
We hope! I don’t know what’s going on under that tape!

Reminds me of the tool board with the painted out line of where the tools are supposed to be. Lol
I have always wanted one of those tool boards! 🙂

Looking at the entire opening makes me NOT want to eat there.
FILTHY- DIRTY.
Call the health department too.
I was thinking the same thing!

You mean duct tape and slide bolts aren’t code compliant? Who woulda thunk?
43 years seeing this is why most every restaurant my friends or wife want to go to I say no way.
The filth the smell of dirty dish water and grease… Forget it. At least 20 times I refused to rekey a door until it was cleaned to my satisfaction.
I was petrified walking into a Captain D’s restaurant. Walking thru the kitchen the floor was so greasy I thought I might slip into a grease cooker..
