Chuck Park Jr. sent me today’s Fixed-it Friday photo, and at first I didn’t see the problem. And no…there is no other door opening into this space. I wonder how many people have noticed this situation – probably not many!

door swings out
Must be a trash can stop?
Thats typical known as an Oops moment.
From the placement of the sill and the carpeting extending under the door, it appears a door was originally swinging inwards and may have been re-installed to swing out at a later date
Stop it, will you?
Floor mounted stop is on the wrong side of the opening.
Screen door stop. They’ll re-install the door as soon as summer comes.
This is likely an ADA retrofit. The door used to swing in but the clearances weren’t there. So they reversed the door without replacing the floor stop or the threshold.
just a oops
This is my thinking. It was originally supposed to swing in on an equal rabbetted frame. The threshold and door stop got installed without anyone realizing that the frame was installed backwards.
Based on where the transition strip is, the installer wasn’t the only one who thought the door would swing in. Makes me wonder if this was a ADA fix but I cant detect any patching on the frame where an old hinge would have been. If they did change the swing, they did a good patching job.
Maybe it’s just in case the Hulk thinks the door swings in. Gotta protect that tile wall!
Threshold is undersized, When the janitor mops the floor the wet mop hits the carpet and with no kick plate the mop will damage the lacquer on the door.
I was thinking maybe it’s to keep a person from walking into the wall. Sometimes you just have to wonder about the competency of some installers.
They may have not bothered to move the stop it didn’t want to patch it. You can see where the door originally was and that they changed to swing off the door by the threshold separating the tile and carpet.
I’d bet a door used to swing in and had to be changed for ADA clearance.
The swing on the door has been changed by a 30-pack handyman. When they did that they not only neglected to take out the stop which creates a nifty tripping hazard. But they conveniently forgot to extend out the threshold of the water closet and leaving exposed carpet…
