Today I visited a third location of the same retail chain, and again, the restroom doors had padlocks and hasps like the second location, and a saggy door (no foot pull) like the first one. I’m seeing a trend.

That’s the company i used to be a manager for until 2010. I assume these are the restrooms located at the back of the store in what used to be the layaway area. I hate to admit it, but my store probably did the same thing in an attempt to reduce vandalism and theft that occurred overnights while open 24/7. We didn’t receive training on the life safety code and didn’t know any better.
Hi Shane –
I didn’t know these stores were open 24/7! Any ideas how I could encourage the corporate office to think more about life safety and educate the store employees?

Cause an ‘incident’? 😀
Send the photos to corporate along with the code violation and risk associated with the liability might help. They will do what corporate tells them to do usually. Contact local authority for follow up as well.
Which code section would you reference?
