This Wordless Wednesday photo is an unbelievable example of the abusive conditions a door might face in a school. I will give you until the end of the day to guess what happened, and then I will edit the post with the answer. (UPDATE: It’s below the photo.) Leave your guess in the reply box!
Thank you to Colin Watson of Allegion for today’s WW photo!
UPDATE: I can’t believe so many of you knew the right answer – or guessed very close! This damage was caused by indoor batting practice. My mom-response went straight to “WHY IN THE SAM HILL DID SOMEONE ALLOW INDOOR BATTING PRACTICE?” That just seems crazy on so many levels! Isn’t baseball an outdoor sport?

Wall (Base)ball
If this is the sports facility or gym exit I would say Baseballs. Strike one?
Was the golf team practicing indoors?
Golf balls into a gym door, size of iron unknown.
Baseballs in a gym of the school? I give that a guess as that usually is where the covers fall off first due to the impact from hard balls hitting the closers,
My guess
Tennis practice
Doors as a backstop ???
Do you see on the left door
Almost top
A C clamp with corresponding hole in mullion.
Possible shop made slide bar door securer?
Did Sports equipment or balls hit the door?
Golf or baseball practice
Baseball practice?
golf balls at high speed impacting the formally flush door surface
Looks kinda like people were hitting golf balls into them.
Baseball back-stop in the gym
Batting practice!
Batting practice without a catcher or a net or any batting skills?
Looks like gym doors and baseball practice.
Gymnasium doors-baseballs, etc.
Is it in a gym and the damage is from baseballs or racket balls?
I would guess the golf team was practicing indoors on bad weather days.
Golf Team practice
Batting practice? 😀
Lacrosse ball practice
Indoor Baseball practice
School Golf team indoor driving practice, extra points for hitting the door at 200 yards!
Customers pay a lot for that custom distressed look.
Baseball or softball practice was moved indoors due to weather and the catchers used the doors as a backstop. I’ve seen it too many times…
Too round for hockey pucks – batting cage?
Lacrosse balls
golf practice
INDOOR BASEBALL PRACTICE
I have seen this on baseball field fences after lacrosse practice.
I hope this wasn’t pitchers practice. Otherwise, batting against this team would mean less swings of the bat and more walks and dodging errant pitches. I say indoor batters practice. Who can hit the exit device? (though they probably didn’t use that term).
Softball or Baseball Practice?
tennis ball impacts??
Baseball practice in a gymnasium.
Did they try teaching golf in the gym?
It is either baseball/softball practice or golf!
It looks like to me that the doors took multiple hits from either a baseball thrown at them, or golf balls being driven at them.
This was indoor baseball practice. Everything in the gym including scoreboard will look like this.
Softball and Baseball indoor practice!
baseballs in a gymnasium
Indoor horizontal hailstorm
Indoor driving range? Golf balls hitting inside of doors? That’s my guess!
Kent
inside a gym where sports are played
Indoor golf range?
Either Batting practice or single person tennis….. from close range!!!
Looks like kids were bouncing a ball against the doors repeatedly during lunch?
The lacrosse team was rebounding a ball against the door.
Likely a gymnasium or similar facility where racquetball, lacrosse or some similar sport was played?
Indoor baseball practice?
Those look like golf ball dents.
is it caused by Indoor LaCrosse?
Handball game!
Looks like they were practicing their slap shoots with hockey pucks
Looks like lacrosse practice to me!
My guess is these doors lead to a sports area at a high school. Damage could be from baseball bats, baseballs, and possibly golf balls thrown at the doors.
LOL!
The culprits may be Canadian.
We have a school door that looks exactly like that. Ours was used for Hockey practice.
The difference was that ours was an exterior door and the neighborhood kids would practice their shooting against it and the adjacent roll shutter. The roll shutter was destroyed and replaced but the door is still on the school.
All we had to do to find the culprits was look at the houses across the street. It was the house with the hockey net in the driveway and the un-dented garage door.
Sports locker room? Football? Baseball? Lacrosse?
Looks like someone practicing their slap shoots with a hockey puck, pretty common in Minnesota.
BACKSTOP FOR PITCHING, SOCCER OR HOCKEY PRACTICE……OR TRUMP DID IT
Golf chip shot practice
or
Seeing who can kick the door highest and hardest while wearing cleats.
NEAR BATTING CAGE.
This is definitely a private prison who likes to deploy 37mm knee knockers!
Lacrosse
Hi Lori,
I don’t think i have any guesses to add to the ever growing list 🙂
Spotted a place at the top of the mullion for a padlock, egress problem!
Now you know why dad got mad at you for practicing tennis against the garage door.
Wow
Record number of replies???!
Did not think about baseball or golf
Varsity level Dodgeball, obviously
That exit device has a 3 piece centercase. Probably 30 years old. I started with VD in 95, that was already old
Looks like baseball or lacrosse
Hmm, pellet gun / air rifle practice
BHMA golf ball test 🙂
Practical joker at work. The doors are locked from the outside. So when a student hits the push bar at a full run to exit the facility, the door doesn’t actually open. The dents are from their heads smacking against the inside of the door when it doesn’t open. SURPRISE!
