Last week, the debut event of the Congressional School Safety Caucus on Capitol Hill was hosted by the Security Industry Association (SIA). This event brought together the co-chairs of the caucus with school security experts to talk strategy, and included a panel discussion moderated by Tim Eckersley, SIA board director and Allegion senior vice president and president of the Americas.
Representatives Rick Larsen, D-Wash., and Susan Brooks, R-Ind., emphasized their support for the School Safety Act (H.R. 2667), a bill which includes federal funds for school security. They also discussed the importance of working together to protect students and teachers.
“Schools must be a place where our students feel safe. The School Safety Caucus is a forum to look at the best ways for schools to approach their safety needs, as well as to push for investments in security and other safety measures,” Rep. Larsen said.
You can read more about this event here, and view the videos of the discussion below (or here: Part 1, Part 2). It’s so great to see this level of interest in the topic of school safety…it was a standing-room-only crowd!
