I have a special place in my heart for locksmiths.  Maybe it’s because I’ve been “saved” a few times…like the time I locked myself out of my apartment in my PJs at 6 a.m.  Or maybe it’s because I like the mechanics of what they do.  I always loved helping our in-house locksmith with masterkeying, and I’ve been told by an experienced locksmith that I’m a natural at shimming cylinders.  How many people can say that?!

I’ve taught quite a few code classes for locksmiths over the years, and I have 2 coming up in the fall – one for the Massachusetts Locksmiths Association and one for the Yankee Security Conference.  It’s really important for locksmiths to know about codes, because they’re the ones being asked to install the double-cylinder deadbolts, or the 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) locks on a door.

Schlage recently added an area on the CO-Series lock site just for locksmiths, so if you’re a locksmith go check it out!  You can download product information, take an online course, and sign up for a box of free Schlage “gear.”  There are quite a few installation and programming videos on the SchlageSecurity YouTube channel, so use those when you need them too.  If there are other resources you’d like to see, let me know.  I know people.  🙂

I hope to see you in an upcoming code class!  If you’re not in Massachusetts, I may be able to arrange training for your local locksmith organization so just drop me a line.

Hurry!  You only have until my birthday to sign up for free gear.  When you register, make sure you say that you saw this on iDigHardware, and tell all of your locksmith-friends to sign up too!
