FF: Creative Pair Modification

Category: Fire Doors,Fixed-it Friday,Panic HardwareLori @ 12:02 am Comments (7)

This Fixed-it Friday set goes out to my friends at Von Duprin Tech Support…I don’t think I’ve ever seen this particular modification before.  How about you?

In case you were thinking about trying this, don’t.  I give the installer kudos for originality and finesse, but it’s not acceptable to modify panic hardware or fire exit hardware.

Creative Pair Application

Modified Vertical Rod Device

Rim Device

Thank you to Paul Goldense of Goldense Building Products for sharing these photos.  The pair leads from a hospital stairwell to the main computer room.

Me too! It looked so perfect that I checked with Von Duprin to make sure I didn’t miss a product change.

  2. Andy Lindenberg says:

Bad news! Unauthorized modification of a fire exit device. But it operates!

  3. Bryan McKeehan says:

They must have been trying to convert an existing opening to match a set of Sargent CTL devices they saw at the last trade show.

  4. Jamo Ladd says:

Got to hand it to the maintenance team. This is ingenious. A true case of thinking outside the box.
But as noted, too bad not acceptable.

  5. Bert Axelson says:

All he needs now is an open back 22 series cover so both doors can be active. I’m impressed.

Or just order the correct Von Duprin part 1609 Overlapping Double Door Rim Strike
