You know what they say about making assumptions. I looked at this Wordless Wednesday photo sent by Shannon Ballard of Allegion and thought, “hmmm…another door that requires two releasing motions for egress.” Shannon asked the business owners about the panic hardware + passage set application, and they had a good (but non-code-compliant) explanation.
You see, this is an exterior door, and when the panic hardware is dogged, the door blows open. Rather than paying for a door closer, they added the passage set to keep the door latched.

It incredibly hacky, but what if they had a loop to hold the passage set open at night when the pushbar isn’t dogged open?
That’s an idea, Grant…I just don’t like to rely on humans because eventually someone will forget.

Another stellar example of we can not afford to do the work correctly, however we can afford to do it twice, or over
If we’re going non-code compliant I’d have gone with a strong cabinet magnet. Unless they have super strong winds blowing from the inside it’d work and not need the second motion.
