Over the July 4th weekend I loaded up the fam and headed for Las Grutas de Tolantongo in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. On the way there we saw THE MOST AMAZING gigantic church, which was enough to leave me #wordless since it’s located in a town with less than 400 residents…
But WOW – THE DOORS!!! When I was looking at the main entrance doors, at first I couldn’t figure out how they opened because the pivot point was basically behind the carved verticals on each side. The center one moves with one of the doors, kind of like a (super-fancy) astragal.
The side doors were also beautifully carved…
A few more architectural details…
I will definitely go back someday when I can go inside, but this travel video shows one of the main entrance doors open, and also the inside of the church.

I was amazed at the churches in Italy. I wondered how some of them were built and decorated.
I take it there are festivals at this church, at different times of the year?
I agree – the churches in Italy are incredible, especially when you consider that many/most were built without the use of today’s technology.
Yes, there are festivals at this church…maybe that’s why it’s full of plastic chairs rather than pews! 🙂

I have the same thought going through my mind as I did when I saw the doors at Strasbourg Cathedral in France years ago-
“I’d hate to try and find new hardware if something breaks……” :).

You’re right, Darren! It seems like they would have someone keeping an eye on the place, but there isn’t anything nearby (https://maps.app.goo.gl/GeDiNZLd97ENDcSL8) and no one was around when we were wandering around. With that said, probably in a town that tiny everyone would know who the vandal was and they would get a wooping from their abuelita.
