As we continue to celebrate the 3,000-post milestone, I don’t know what to say about today’s Wordless Wednesday photo sent by Bruce Gill of North Central Supply. The door is the rear exit of a sporting goods store, and is equipped with panic hardware, two cane bolts, AND a delayed egress mag-lock. There are a few other issues too…can you spot them? SMH

1. Panic device does not go half way across the width???
2. Missing a few items required for delayed exiting?
How about non compliant rim panic device for one. NPFA 101 – Means of Egress. Push pad or cross bar actuating portion of which extends across not less than one-half of the width of door leaf.
The actuating part of the Panic device is not wide enough.
I see several too. The exit device is too short for this door and the movable pad is less than 50% of the door width. The instruction sign to operate the delay has to be within a set height and is too high on the door. I don’t see any evidence of the bar having the proper switch in it to activate the delay or the screamer holes. I am guessing that the bar is not part of the delay. Where is the button to start the delay countdown? Although I have never installed one, didn’t some mag locks have a switch built in for that purpose? Cane bolts themselves are an issue, but the bottom one also is an ADA violation sticking off the face of the door.
Hi Rich –
Delayed egress mag=locks often have a switch that begins the timer when someone moves the door a bit while trying to exit.

The actuating portion of the panic bar is too short.
Does not have 10″ smooth bottom rail.
Lite kit is too high.
Not sure about the forward approach clearance without looking it up but it seems a little tight on latch side.
Missing a fire-alarm pull-station (for the maglock release)…
Panic hardware width is too short. Vision light is not ADA compliant. Floor cane bolt obstructs smooth surface at bottom of door on push side.
Unbelievable! And scary…
Lower cane bolt intrudes into the 10″ above floor zone.
Door clearance at strike jamb looks too small for barrier-free.
However, read the sign: (emphasis added) “IF DOOR OPENS, alarm will sound.” The alarm is not too likely to sound, with all of the multiple actions needed to open the door.
Panic device is too short for the door width, Closer is leaking
Exit device is short on one end.
Just because no one else has said it- the door closer is leaking oil and is not properly installed either!
there is no PBE request to exit button less than 5 linear feet from from the exit, the sign exceeds the 5% rule, the exit device is out of code range for length, there is no proper gasketing around the assembly, the SDC sign is too high should be no further up than the device, and the bolts are not code unless the AHJ allowed them.
Closer Body is reversed. Spring house was facing to hinge side, it should face to the lock edge. Door may not open properly
