Today I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of one of my very favorite people in the door and hardware industry, Bob Jutzi. Jutzi passed away on February 15, 2022, at the age of 76, surrounded by his loved ones and his dog Lula. Bob’s obituary is here.
Bob was one of my very first instructors, when I attended the AH2 class in Savannah over 30 years ago. In addition to being lucky enough to have him as a mentor throughout my career, I adopted many of his teaching “tricks” to make learning about hardware (and codes!) more fun. Bob was a frequent visitor to iDigHardware – he sent photos, left comments, and often emailed jokes and comics…he sent me the last one only two weeks ago.
I have often told my kids that my life goal is to make a difference, in the hope that when I pass on, people will notice that I’m gone. Jutzi made a difference to so many people, and I know I am not the only one mourning his passing.

Thanks for posting. Bob made doors and hardware fun and he is the main reason I aspired to become an AHC.
Bob was one of my favorite experts in the architectural hardware world, too. I will remember him most for the smiles and laughter he elicited from those of us who were lucky enough to be in his orbit.
He taught my AH2 class as well. He was a real great instructor. A joy to have in and out the classroom. He will be missed.
