Debbie White of Allegion sent me today’s Wordless Wednesday photo, which she received from a friend. I love it when my friends send me door photos…hopefully I’ll be getting more as we can safely start to travel again! Hint, hint. 🙂

I think that this is the first time that I have ever seen a push paddle exit alarm mounted on the PULL side of a door.
So many things wrong with this, but the cherry on top is that this is the pull side of the door
do they realize that is an inswing door with a push to open device and a bumper that look like it prevents the door from fully opening?
Probably the Fire Marshall demanded a panic bar on this door. Obviously the guy never went back to the store to verify the required panic bar or the door would be swinging out right now. I’m not going to comment about all the other devices around this “exit only” door since they probably were there before the panic bar. I’m sure the store owner is proud of his handiwork.
The DETEX paddle says, “PUSH HERE”. Oh, hold on… the door swings towards me. Brilliant!
At least detex supplies “how to be code compliant” signs!!!
With pictures
Instructions should read “push lever while alarm sounds until Detex releases, then turn knob and pull door open. If that doesn’t work, then slide latch, turn lever, and pull door. If it is after dark, then wait here and hope for further assistance but do not open door to see if it is dark.”…seems legit
I didn’t notice that sign about not opening after dark till you mentioned it. WOW
Oh my gosh, I just realized the sign that says “do not open this door after dark”. Yes there are so many things wrong and if I were Detex, I’m not so sure this would be how want my hardware displayed, in fact, I would probably ask them to remove it.
This picture is the definition of “special knowledge or effort”- yikes!
