As many of you know, DHI’s conNextions conference will be held virtually this year – October 21st and 22nd.  If you register by September 30th, the price is $129 – very reasonable for the amount of education that is available.  You could easily recover that investment just by avoiding one mistake on a project because of something you learned (like an upcoming code change, perhaps?).

I’m putting the finishing touches on my presentation for the conference, which will cover the changes related to door openings for the 2021 editions of the International Building Code (IBC) and NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code.  But I need you to help me make sure that I answer as many lingering questions as possible.

If you have questions about any of the following topics – which all have upcoming code changes, please leave them in the reply box so I can address them during my presentation:

  • Controlled egress in health care – electrified vs. mechanical (yes, there is a new option)
  • Special locking arrangements vs. normal locking arrangements
  • Terminated stops on fire door assemblies – where are they prohibited?
  • Maximum allowable door width, and projections into the clear opening height (mag-locks, auto operators, etc.)
  • Auxiliary locks on existing classroom doors
  • Operable force for hardware – IBC vs. ADA
  • Operation of manually-operated sliding doors
  • Key-operated locks (double-cylinder deadbolts) on main entrance doors and egress doors serving exterior spaces
  • Panic hardware on electrical rooms and refrigeration machinery rooms
  • Automatic operators on public entrances, monitored sensors, and standby power
  • Pool doors and gates – hardware height and other requirements
  • Roof access/egress – when and how can these doors be locked (or not)?

There are a lot of changes and clarifications that address hardware in the 2021 model codes, so I hope you can make it to the presentation.  In the meantime, I’d love to hear your questions so I can proactively answer them.  Thanks!  🙂

And the next Security in 30 webinar for integrators is this Friday, September 11th: Navigating the Complexities of Electronic Access Control.

As simple as access control may seem, delivering an integrated EAC solution is no easy task.  From navigating the various system architectures and technology decisions, to coordinating with the various stakeholders and trades involved, it can become very complex.  Join us as our experts discuss tools and support services available to help mitigate the confusion.

This 30-minute webinar will be presented by Mark Casey, Director, National Electronic Sales and Chris Stull, Electronic Sales Engineer.

The registration link for this webinar is on Allegion’s Security in 30 page.
