A couple of months ago I did a post about the new aged bronze finish – BHMA 643e. A local architect commented that he had been looking for a finish similar to the base metal that you see after US10B finish rubs off. I can’t walk away from a challenge, so I called Frascio International to see what they could do.
As I described what I was looking for, Nathan already had some ideas about how to create it. He had their factory in Italy make a couple of different options, sent photos, and then had the levers shipped to me. The picture doesn’t do it justice…this “vibratory tumbled brass” finish is very rich, and everyone in my office who saw the lever loved it. I delivered the samples to the architect, and he said that he was going to find a project to specify it on immediately.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the finish over time, and what kind of maintenance is required, but the bottom line is that Frascio is a great resource for special hardware like this. Check them out!

well, for that matter, you could set up your own tumbler contraption. maybe
the ‘trade-secret’ is what is used for the tumbler media. the polishing
or abrading stuff is called ‘media’.. not hard to do. lapidaryists (sp?)
do it all the time with stones they want to polish…
