It’s school vacation week and we took the kids to the Cape for a few days. Here are some of the doors we’ve seen on our trip.
The kids are AMAZED by the dollar bills taped all over the hotel bar. The bartender told me that there are more than 10,000 bills.
This windmill is in Eastham, Massachusetts. I love the doorstep.
I found these while doing a little antique shopping:
This is Nauset Light in Eastham, Massachusetts, one of several lighthouses we visited today.
This beautiful home in Eastham, Massachusetts was built in 1868 by Captain Edward Penniman, one of the most successful whaling ship captains in New England.
We’ll be home in a couple of days…for anyone else enjoying school vacation week – have fun, and send me some photos!

There does not appear to be any snow on the ground in these pictures… Does the Cape get any snowfall during the winter months? Or does the close proximity to the ocean keep the temperatures mild?
Hi Brad –
There would typically be some snow here but we have had almost no snow this winter. It’s a little surreal to be past the mid-way point of February and I think we’ve shoveled twice.

Fantastic, your children will remember the vacation trips forever, even if they are disguised as door hunting trips
Hopefully the bar is using government issued fire retardant dollars!!!!
Very cool pictures Lori.
I’m surprised that the Fire Marshal hasn’t shut down the bar until the paper money is removed. Appears to be quite a fire hazard!
I’m going to guess that the dollar bills have been flagged as meeting exception 1. to 801.1.1 of the IBC-based code (i.e. materials less than 0.036″ thick). I don’t think that allowing that application, esp. at the ceiling, was the intent of the ICC. Maybe they’re treated with something?
The ceiling of loose paper causes me concern too for its ability to burn FAST.
There was a gift store in my town which had suspended cedar lattice about 18″ (45cm) from the true ceiling. It allowed the keeper to drape it with bits of fabric and place in silk flowers and ivy. Every time I visited, I thought of how fast this place would conduct fire. Candles were for sale but I never saw any burning. Ironically, it did burn but it started about two doors down and after hours for this store.
