I’ll be heading to DHI ConNextions in Fort Worth next week, where Mark Kuhn and I will be conducting two training sessions with some help from our Allegion teammates.  This year, the classes offer continuing education credits from DHI, AIA, and the ICC!

Wednesday, November 5th, 10:30 AM -12:00 PM

Back by popular demand…our 1 vs. 100 Code Update – This interactive session is taught in a game show format – including prizes!  We’ll cover recent code changes affecting both mechanical and electrified hardware.

Building codes are on a constant cycle of revision, with model codes updated every three years and adopted at varying times across jurisdictions. As of now, the 2024 model codes have been published, the 2027 development cycle is underway, and many states are transitioning to or enforcing the 2021 or 2024 editions. For professionals working with doors and hardware, staying up to date on these evolving requirements is essential to ensure safety, accessibility, egress, and code compliance. This session will provide a clear overview of current code requirements and highlight significant changes on the horizon that impact door openings in all building types.

Best Practices for Code Compliance Workshop – This is a brand new roundtable class taking an in-depth look at the recent changes with Mark and me, along with Christin Kinman, Mark Facca, Stephen Richardson, Randy Jump, and Matt Linch, all of Allegion.  Each attendee will receive a partial copy of the 2024 International Building Code (with permission from the ICC) which includes most of the door-related requirements.

This extended 2-hour workshop offers an in-depth exploration of code compliance as it relates to commercial access control systems and door hardware. Led by industry experts, including Lori Greene of Allegion, the session provides valuable insight into current codes, standards, and best practices that impact the design, specification, and implementation of secure and accessible entry solutions. Through focused breakout sessions, participants will examine a range of topics—from special locking arrangements and healthcare facility requirements to school safety updates and emerging trends—equipping attendees with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions that prioritize life safety, code compliance, and occupant welfare.
