Hal Kelton of DOORDATA Solutions sent me today’s Fixed-it Friday photo, taken by Michelle Atkinson, CFDAI, of Atkinson Door. This is a “security solution” (not recommended!) employed by a church that has had trouble with unauthorized entry. It seems like the time is right for the upcoming conference: Sacred Spaces, Secured Futures.

So is that Duck tape all over the doors?
I think the Breaking Strength of an extension cord is 5.67 Pounds!!
I guess the duct tape on the door did not fix the latching issue.
Extension cords and microphone cables…yup, it’s a church! (I say that as a lifelong church member 🙂 )
It’s the latest in “powered” locking!
And what is going on at the bottom of the door, another security feature?
Ouch! Since it clearly wasn’t enough of a fire code violation to simply tie the door shut, they tied the door shut with a freaking extension cord.
Ok there’s just so much to unpack here…
1) Blocking or otherwise inhibiting egress…
2) That requires more than one motion to open…
3) That requires special knowledge or skill to open…
4) The dexterity required to open exceeds ADA…
5) and finally…. EXTENSION CORDS?!
