People at a conferenceLast week, Mark Kuhn and I taught a code update class at the DHI ConNextions conference and it was standing room only!  We talked about ten recent and future code changes related to mechanical hardware and fire doors, and ten related to electrified hardware.  We all know how important it is to keep up on the current code requirements related to door openings, to avoid problems in the field and even potential life safety and accessibility issues.

The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) has been very active in code development for over twenty years, and during each code development cycle we work on dozens of proposals.  These efforts have resulted in many clarifications to help avoid misinterpretations, and changes to address new technologies and changing threats.  Even if a particular jurisdiction has not yet adopted a new edition of the model codes, awareness of the changes can help avoid unpleasant surprises.

If you weren’t able to attend our class in Las Vegas, you have another opportunity to learn what’s new, in the same engaging format that we used in the live presentation.  DHI is hosting two webinars for Mark and me to share these sessions virtually!  These classes are free for DHI members, and each session will qualify for one unit of DHI technical continuing education credit.*
