Back in 2019 I visited the Vatican, but I didn’t come across the door in today’s Wordless Wednesday photo. Luckily, Greg Muir saw it and Deputy Jeff Tock of Allegion sent me Greg’s photo. I’m not sure what the Vatican City codes require, but this door would not be compliant with the I-Codes or the NFPA codes!

Must have got caught up in a code update, during a remodel project???
Or someone found a door laying around , and needed a replacement door?
I am guessing that is the door to purgatory. Once you go in it takes an act of God to get out.
I’m thinking that the door predates the NFPA and ICC codes…..by a century or two!! Except the old panic push bar!! I LOVE the PURGATORY comment!!! 🙂 🙂
Based on the location of the hinges, are you supposed to pull on the panic bar?
Good question…and I’m not sure there is enough info to answer it 🙂

I’ve been to the Vatican several times and this appears to be in the hall leading to the Sistine Chapel. Yes, the door is old and yes, I’m sure the Vatican makes it’s own rules.
