RB Sontag of Allegion sent me today’s Fixed-it Friday photos, and I’m wordless! In all of my years in the industry, I don’t recall ever seeing electromagnetic holders installed this way. How about you?

I guess the chain was added, after the ceiling tile was pulled down ???
I don’t know, I think this is an opportunity for Allegion to jump into the untapped market for “electromagnetic holder pendant mounts” and “decorative electromagnetic holder chains”. 😉
Sometimes there just aren’t any words
If this is Low-Voltage Door holder, functional, but looks rather idiotic…. If it is 115 VAC power, not even close to being to the Electrical codes…..
The chain… oh the chain… what is the POINT? To make it break the glass faster? I really cannot figure that one out. I kinda get the logic of a ceiling mounted hold-open, as–special–as it is, but I can’t understand the chain.
The chain is what is actually holding the door open, the conduit just supports the magnet when it’s released. I bet it’s a bit tricky to re-engage the magnet after it releases the door, though.
Wow, looks like the conduit and J-box is ready to come out of the ceiling and bash someone in the head.
That’s just called “southern ingenuity”.
Is this a special template from Ives’ engineering dept?
The great American mind at work, problem solving. Yikes!
Laughable … NOT! The architect of record should be reprimanded for allowing this and the Security/Hardware Consultant should have pushed back; no pun intended. Too little concern in today’s architectural world.
Can we call it free holded mag holder? Ha Ha
I saw something like this once in a nursing home but they used rigid conduit, not flexible. And it must have been braced well above the drop ceiling because it didn’t move much. I didn’t have my tape measure on me because I was off the clock so I can’t tell you if it was too low. The doors were 7′-0″ (I assumed) so it would have been close. Ugly but….
