Jeff Tock of Allegion sent me today’s Fixed-it Friday photos and I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Maybe someone was hesitant to drill into the tile, so this was their solution?

Ok, when I said “” put it at the exit door””
I meant near, it!!!
Well at least they mounted it at the correct height. Oh, wait…
At least they kept it above the 10″ accessible kick zone.
Does this make it a fire door?
We had a 4 story job where the installer put all the extinguishers as shown here. They had 3 foot doors and the inspector rejected them because it blocked the clear opening required by code.
Is that’s someone’s idea of a self-extinguishing door??
By putting the extra weight on the hinge side of the door it offsets the pulling force on the top hinge from the latch side. :):) hahaha not…
Fire Marshals usually require the extinguishers to be “on the path of exit travel” and often “within 75′ of the exit”. hard to get much closer.
However, when the door is open the extinguisher probably extends more than 4″ into the barrier-free travel path.
