COVID-19 has changed how we do a lot of things, but I had not heard about the Flaming Lips Space Bubbles Concerts until this CBS Sunday Morning segment was sent to me by Jim Elder of Secured Design, LLC. In the instructional video for the concert (available in this LA Times article), it says: “At the end of the concert, everyone will – while still inside the space bubble – roll their space bubble to the exit door. Once outside the venue, you can unzip your space bubble, and get out.”
I’d love to know what the fire marshal in Oklahoma City had to say about this plan! There were 100 space bubbles – each holding 1-3 people. Egress concerns, anyone? #wordless

It seems a little bit dangerous to be doing said event inside Here are a few of the egress and safety concerns I can think of :
1. Zipper failure
2. Oxygen supply if concert goes longer then expected
3. The bubble size compared to venue exits?

I guess the good thing about 2021,,,, They do not use “””lighters””, anymore at concerts!!!!
FM may have not known about the concert?
Wonder if some of the audience members smoked a bit of weed during their stay in the bubble (i.e. hotboxing?)

Here in MD, we just went to our first concert in over a year three weeks ago. The venue (they have two indoor stages), erected a large outdoor tent in a parking lot a few blocks away, added two atomizing misters and placed sofas “distanced” apart for the audience. You purchased an entire 2 or 4 person sofa as a group for tickets and during the show you had to stay masked and in your seat. Drinks were ordered via an app then delivered to you and you could only remove your mask to actively sip your drink. It worked out very nicely considering the weather is starting to get warmer here.
As for the concert in the video…. Nothing like watching a show in might become your body bag if there’s an emergency. Yes, I know a bit morbid, but the truth in those situations usually isn’t pretty…..
I think concerts will look a little different for a while, but the sofa solution sounds better than 100 bubbles!

I just wondering what happens when one of the occupants wants to pee.
I guess everyone goes outside to a porta-potty.
The person in the bubble holds up a sign that says “I need to pee!” (for real) and then I assume they are escorted to the bathroom.

One thing the pandemic has really put a magnifying glass on is how many terribly bad ideas people can come up with if you give them a chance and every single one of them is convinced they have the absolute best idea in the history of mankind.
