Do you see what I see in these Fixed-it Friday photos? It’s hard to know whether this was done to secure these doors against intruders or to prevent elopement of young students, but either way it’s a problem. Fortunately, it’s in the process of being resolved.

Besides the door, the trash can, the table, the wood board,,, Etc
Looks like a little older school model.
For daycares, for the door to the exterior, if there is ANY access control, I’ve found that using a double card reader with an alarm and door contact works really well. For the main entrance at one, we put a door contact and a request to exit with alarm for parents to reach. At my kids’ old daycare, they had a mag lock and then put a request to exit at like 70″ AFF. The AHJ got mad (before I got there), and made them add in a REX dummy panic for the maglock. Then, they didn’t remove the old panic bar as it was their locking mechanism for after hours…. They were special.
While they’re at it, are they going to get rid of the wired glass?
I noticed that too.

This is not the first time I have seen something like this. Adding a bolt that can be padlocked. They are using it to secure the building after hours. But that doesn’t make it right. To them security come first.
Two rim exit devices and a mullion are an excellent way of securing a pair of doors. Why someone would illegally put padlocked surface bolts on these doors is hard to grasp. Of course, if there is an emergency, the little tykes will have to navigate the boxes, scale, tricycles, table and garbage can before they get to the padlocked exterior doors! If I had a child attending this school, I would be furious!
This nonsense goes on and on everywhere . As soon as the inspector goes the stupidity starts and no one says a word ,that is until disaster strikes then the fingers start pointing … it’s up to us to report accident waiting to happen
Another WDT from Lori’s bag of photos:)
