It still amazes me that people with seemingly no understanding of the code requirements will make modifications to their doors that could result in injury or even death. I would think that the potential liability would make them think twice – if nothing else.

I agree, Lori. I think that when a door professional sees these types of situations we should be able to call the violation in to the AHJ and that they, in turn should visit the offending site and issue a citation. Period.
Unless there are consequences for violation, people will not take this situation seriously.

I’m dealing with this same mentally right now with a condominium board of directors. They think the underground parking level doors that don’t close , don’t lock and don’t work is not a problem. On top of that they have replaced the threshold with a concrete curb to stop water from pouring into the space … Talk about an obstacle
