Yes, it’s Week 23. So if you’re feeling a little webinar-ed out, that’s probably why. To be honest, after 133 days in the house with only brief trips out for errands, I’d love to be able to sit down with a group of people face-to-face and facilitate a Code Update Roundtable class. (I know…kind of a crazy thing to yearn for.) One day this time period will be in the rear-view mirror, but for now, we have to continue to adapt to the “new normal.”
We are committed to offering live online training opportunities, and there are also recorded sessions available. The following live classes are on tomorrow’s Webinar Wednesday agenda (all times are EST):
10:00am – 11:00am K-12: Designing for Layered Security
When designing or remodeling a school, security and safety should be at the forefront of discussions and design. It’s important to understand the most common types of threats in educational facilities in order to create layers of security with the appropriate opening hardware to mitigate those threats.
In this session, Schlage’s Training Manager, Gordon Malczewski, will provide you with code-compliant ways to achieve lockdown status when needed.
12:00pm – 1:00pm Access Control for Stairwells
Stairwell openings provide unique challenges for hardware and security professionals. As fire-rated openings, they must meet the requirements as defined by our building codes. And, as stairwell openings, there is another set of requirements set by our building codes around re-entry requirements. In the event of a fire, the codes want to ensure no one gets caught in a smoke-filled stairwell.
Join Jeff Tock, our End User Training Manager, to learn more about how to meet these very important requirements while also addressing a multi-story building’s access control needs.
2:00pm – 3:00pm Electrified Hardware: Wiring Choices
Selecting the correct wire for electromechanical locking devices and electronic access control systems is critical for the proper operation of those devices and systems. If terms such as volts, amps, plenum-rated, and shielded leave you scratching your head, this webinar is for you.
Our Von Duprin Training Manager, Shawn Mahoney, will show you how to read labels on various types of cables and help you select the proper cable based on factors such as operating voltage, current rating, wire lengths, and the installation environment.
You can register for these webinars on the Allegion Virtual Event Calendar.

If you’re a security integrator or security consultant, the next webinar in the Security in 30 series will be Friday, August 7th, and the presenter is…ME! The title of the session is “Codes are Crucial” and I will be discussing why it is so important to understand the code implications when designing an access control system, and how to learn more about the requirements of the codes and standards.

A couple more notes…
DHI has announced that this year’s conference will be held virtually. They are still working on the schedule, but I hope to move most of my previously-planned sessions to the online platform. More to come on that, so keep an eye on the DHI conNextions site for upcoming announcements.
The recording of my webinar on touchless openings is still being processed, but I’ll make it available asap. The next Decoded webinar is scheduled for October 1st, and the registration links are on the webinars page of iDigHardware.
