We’ve all seen closers installed incorrectly…the question is how will the control of this door be affected by the installation in this Fixed-it Friday photo? Will the door slam, or lose closing force? Will the degree of opening be restricted, or will the door be too hard to open? What do you think?
Thank you to Cliff Cohen of Armstrong Lock for today’s Fixed-it Friday photo!

Talk about field modifications, a fire door too?
I have it on authority from a local Schlage engineer that this closer is likely subject to: low closing force, no latch speed control, and either very early or no backcheck
Is there another door closer on the OTHER SIDE of the door too? Just asking!
Seeing that install, it would have an extremely weak spring and up to maybe 120 degrees max opening,
Speaking of closer calls, I have to re-install one tomorrow!
I would be concerned that some action on the door could cause the arm to end up beyond straight and end up with the middle connecting point against the door, making the door impossible to open as opening force would just end up pushing the arm more firmly against the door. If I were the A H J, I would tell them to find someone competent to reinstall the closer.
Bet it works like a charm . Lol . I just love installs like these . Makes me laugh every day . Just the mental gymnastics one has to go through to install this .. one word . instructions
Same here, I try to get pictures of the strange installs, one of which landed here on IDH, that one was called “hanging by a thread” shows an LCN 4040 held to door frame (TJ) with coat hanger wire!
Being I have been into door closers since I was 12 years old, life in door hardware never bores me with all the odd Ways people have installed a closer more less the questions people ask about them!
no comments on the visonlite frame ?
I love that glazing frame!
Which side are the hinges on?
