Rich Howard of Architectural Builders Supply sent me today’s Wordless Wednesday photo. I’ll give it a C+ for effort, but an F for egress.

In the event of fire, jump in the Ocean!
Lori, I’ve seen in only a handfull or casinos, resturants, hotels, trade centers, a release device on the outside or toilet stalls, is this an IFC or an IBC requirement.
Like I said I’ve only seen it on about 2-3% of these facilities. Is it a requirement or has the facility just installed it, your help
would be greatly appreciated, thank you
Hi Barry –
What kind of release device? Do you have any photos?
– Lori
I suspect that Barry is referring to inswinging toilet stall doors without an exterior lock release. Modern toilet partitions have a “lift the door” feature to disengage the lock. If they are properly installed they work great, then there’s the other side of the coin.
