Ian Baren of Katonah Architectural Hardware sent me today’s Fixed-it Friday photo. This mortise lock is on a very fancy clothing store, and apparently it was an aesthetic problem for someone that the gasketing did not continue down the lock face. So they drew it in with a Sharpie! You’d think that if they were going to go to the trouble, they would have used a straight-edge!

Or did it use to be there??
See the jagged edges top and bottom
Not casting stones. I’ve done that on a 613 kick plate with 626 screws.
This is a good laugh and harmless, too. Someone just has a minor OCD. Who wants to tell them it’s rubbing off and they forgot to do the latch?
Being perfectly honest, whomever thought of and/or did it is either silly or stupid.
Send me an order for a Black Powder coated strip face plate and bolt.
It will look much nicer.
