The theory is that the stick on this hold-open is there so you don’t have to bend over to install/remove the wedge. I’ll bet the architect who chose those door pulls didn’t have this aesthetic in mind. Thank you to Rachel Smith of Karpen Steel for this Fixed-it Friday photo!

What happened to the top rods if any for those double doors?
They are concealed vertical rod devices. The thing that looks like a bottom rod is actually a stick that is attached to the hold-open wedge.
I did not know that Von Duprin made a “bottom rod only” 9927 option!
We have a local fire marshal who would love to add that one to his collection — he’ll smile for you as he writes out his fix-it ticket.
Surface bottom Rod (Stick) do not have 626 or 630 finish.
