The open back strike hadn’t been installed when I took this photo, but what else is missing? It’s a tricky one, but you can click on the picture to enlarge it if you need to.
If you think you know, add a comment by clicking this link and then scrolling down. I will hold all of the comments until Monday, July 20th, and then I’ll randomly select the winner from the correct answers. The winner will receive a fabulous gift from the IR prize vault.
Update: I guess this one was harder than I thought! I’ve attached a photo of the pull side of the same doors, and as you can see there are closers. A coordinator isn’t required because of the open back strike. The delayed egress exit devices and wire glass are acceptable according to the code that was in use when the doors were replaced. The undercut might be a little more than the exit device template calls for, but the item I’m looking for is pretty good sized and completely missing. If it was installed, as required by code, it would be very obvious.
Click on either photo to enlarge, but here’s a hint…with the information above and the original photo of the push side of the door, you don’t have to enlarge the photo to see that something’s missing. Good luck!

I probably am not eligible to win. The exits look to be a delayed egress type. Where is the door signage?
7.2.1.6.1 (4)
There is no signage on the egress side of the door warrning people they’re delayed egress devices?
Knowing that the exits are delayed egress,
I believe the required singage is missing stating,
“PUSH UNTIL ALARM SOUNDS. DOOR CAN BE OPENED IN 15 SECONDS.”
delayed egress requires decal sign metioning deleyed egress alarm.
Thank you.
Just got a chance to look at the website. What I see missing is the sign that is required for delayed egress doors.
These doors are missing the required signage that reads “Push until alarm sounds. Door can be opened in 15 seconds”.
The delayed egress signage.
WARNING SIGNS ADVISING OF 15 OR 30 SECOND DELAY.
The delayed egress warning sign is not attached to the door.
Signage to describe the operation of the devices
SIGNAGE!!!! – “Door can open in 15 seconds…..”
Hey Lori –
first time on your site and so far looks great.
How was I supposed to know the pair of doors had delayed egress? Maybe I
didn’t see the whole problem? I trust that this was not in a school.
Bruce
Hi Bruce –
You can tell by the double LED’s on the devices but you might have to zoom in to see them. I wanted to make it a little easier so I said in the blue text that they were delayed egress devices. And YES…these were in a school (delayed egress was allowed in schools under the old Mass Code).
